Beginner Seed Beading Classes

Flat Peyote Stitch Basics - Learn flat peyote stitch!  Class includes odd and even count peyote instruction, ideas for using multiple drops and pattern graphing tips.  Students will leave with the start of a bracelet or amulet bag. An ideal class for seed bead beginners.  Also Available:  Circular and Tubular Peyote Stitch Basics

Brick Stitch Basics – Finished product looks similar to peyote stitch, but is a very different stitch.  This stitch has long been used by both Native American and African bead workers.  Class includes flat and tubular brick stitch, and tips on graphing patterns.  Students will leave with the start of an amulet bag, or duster earrings.

Herringbone Sampler - Traditionally used by the Ndebele (en-de-BELL-ee) people of South Africa, it is called herringbone stitch in America because the beads form V-shaped columns that look like herring ribs.  Students will learn flat and tubular herringbone.

Horizontal Netting Sampler – This is an easy stitch that creates a supple fabric, and has lots of room for experimentation.  Students will learn flat netting basics, and experiment with different drop sizes.

Square Stitch Sampler – This stitch looks identical to loom work, but without the loom!  Students will learn the basic flat square stitch, and how to incorporate different shapes of seed beads to create texture.

Bead Embroidery  Transform an ordinary garment into something fabulous!  The two most popular stitches, lazy stitch and backstitch, will be covered, along with several fringe and edging techniques.  A small piece of fabric will be provided, or you can bring a garment that you would like to embellish.
